WebDec 30, 2012 · A solution: If the problem is occuring with a gmail IMAP account through Apple mail, go to Mail preferences --> Accounts --> Mailbox behaviors, and UNCHECK "store draft messages on server". The problem occurs because Mail auto-saves drafts every 30 seconds or so, and if they are stored on the server, that's where they stay.
